Through its rock, grunge and pop punk style, the Belarusian group N.R.M. proclaims only one thing: freedom. Translated into English, their name means Independent Republic of Dreams. A political subcontext can be seen in a majority of their lyrics, a hidden protest against the disregard of elementary freedoms by the “last dictator of Europe“.

N. R. M.‘s leader and soul is Ljavon Volski. He is one of the most charismatic figures in the Belorusian cultural underground movement against the present regime. To the youth he is a symbol of freedom and unflinching spirit, to the government he is a thorn which needs to be neutralized.

Their songs banned by radio stations and their concerts disrupted by any means possible – these are the conditions that the young men of this group are enduring for a second decade, drawing crowds to their performances everywhere, except for the country of their birth.
